Offtake dynamics in the Gulf of Guinea
Why access to cargoes is now decided less on price than on the ability to prefinance and to secure the documentary chain.
Access to crude cargoes in the Gulf of Guinea is no longer decided primarily on price differentials. It is decided on two capabilities: financing the lifting in advance, and securing the documentary chain through to payment.
Prefinancing as the condition of entry
National operators increasingly favour counterparties able to advance working capital before loading. That capability shifts where competition happens: it excludes purely commercial intermediaries and favours structures backed by an identified financing line.
The documentary chain
The second barrier is documentary. Compliance, traceability of origin, quality of security — defects are paid for at the point of payment, rarely before. That is the part of the file where we concentrate verification up front.
